ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for NDA Applicants and aspirants

Marital status & age:

Bachelors must be 16 and half years old and should not have completed 19 years of age as on 1st Jan or 1st July in the succeeding year of the exam.

NDA Educational Qualifications:

Air Force eligibility criteria: candidates must have undertaken maths and physics and passed out with more than 65% marks in their 12th standard board examination.

Army wing eligibility criteria (NDA Academy): candidate must be 12th pass and has achieved above 60% marks.

Naval Academy eligibility criteria: Candidate must be 12th pass and also must have taken maths and physics as a subject and passed out 12th standard board examination.

Physical Standards

To be eligible for NDA Candidate must be physically fit. Candidate should be able to clear all the physical standards norms such as height weight and eye sight. Candidate has to undergo the physical test to be eligible for NDA exam.

Selection Process

  • Performance in the written test
  • SSB Interview.

Pattern of NDA exam

NDA exam will be objective type and Total marks in NDA exam are 900 split up into 2 parts:

Paper 1(Mathematics) 120 questions in 21/2 hrs. 300 marks
Paper II (General Ability Test) 150 questions in 21/2 hrs. 600 marks
Total   900 marks

Scheme of the Examination-

  • Part a) Written Exam
  • Part b) Group tests, intelligence test & SSB interview for written exam qualifiers.

****Candidates should be aware of the penalty for wrong answers marked i.e. negative marking in the Objective Type Question Papers.****


Paper I (Mathematics) – Matrices and Determinants, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Differentiation, Integration, Statistics and Probability, Probability etc.

Paper II (General Ability Test)

Part A English: Grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, in extended texts to test the candidate’s proficiency in English.

Part B General Knowledge: The paper of General Knowledge includes all the subjects: Science(Physics, chemistry), Social Studies, Geography and Current Affairs.

Selection procedure for NDA exam

Round 1: Written exam of 900 marks. After clearing the written exam the shortlisted candidate will be preceded to the next round.

Round 2: Service selection Board (SSB) Interview- Interview will be conducted and based on the personality and level of confidence a candidate carries. The duration of Interview is of 5 days. The schedule of which is as under:

  • Day 1- On first day of the interview Basic intelligence of the candidate is tested
  • Day 2- On second day the Psychological Test is conducted
  • Day 3 & Day 4: Group testing will be conducted by GTO (Group testing officers)
  • Day 5: Conference is conducted on fifth day
  • *Personal interview or Group discussion can be planned any day between Day2-Day4
